Rear Spring Installation

This is a log of my experience replacing rear springs on my vehicle and it is not a tutorial or service manual procedure.

Put the back of the car up on jack stands and remove the wheels.

Remove the trunk floor and side liner to expose the top shock bolt under the foam pad.
Hold the shock stud with a T40 torx bit to keep it from turning while removing the 18mm nut.

Remove the sway bar nuts using the T40 torx bit to hold the stud. Remove the sway bar link and set aside.

Loosen the 15mm bolt holding the leading control arm to the hub knuckle.
It's OK if the bolt does not come all the way out...

Remove the 15mm lower shock bolt.

Carefully position a floor jack under the swing arm and raise it up far enough to slide the shock completely out.

Install the spring compressor within the coil spring and compress 2 full coils as far as possible.

Adjust the floor jack to remove tension from the leading control arm so the bolt can be removed.

Push the leading control arm out of the way and remove the 15mm bolt holding the swing arm to the hub knuckle.
Cut the zip-tie holding the spring to the spring cup.

Push the swing arm down and carefully remove the spring from the spring cup.
Be very cautious of the ABS wiring harness when removing the spring!

Note the postion of the spring compressor in the coil spring and remove it from the spring.

Install the compressor into the new spring at the center coils and compress. Relocate the
rubber spring seat and plastic spring covers to the top & bottom of the new spring.
Wrap lightly with tape to hold in place for installation.

Push the swing arm down and carefully position the new spring in the top and bottom spring cups.
Be very cautious of the ABS wiring harness when removing the spring!

Use the floor jack to re-position the swing arm onto the hub knuckle and loosely replace the 15mm bolt.

I used a scissors jack to get the control arm bolt holes to line back up. Install and tighten the 15mm
bolt and then re-install the shock and bottom shock bolt.

Make sure the shock top stud goes into/through the top bearing hole.

Tighten the bottom and top shock bolts and then re-install the sway bar link.
Check and tighten all other bolts and nuts!
